My daughter is expecting a baby boy in October and has really been enjoying the book, “What To Expect When You’re Expecting”.
Being a first time parent she has lots of questions and the book, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” has really helped to alleviate her fears and given her advice on how to have a healthy pregnancy. She loves that she can read about her progress as her baby grows (illustrations included) by following the chapters in the book and is preparing for the labor and delivery by reading that chapter. Being her first baby, the book has so much information that is taking away the fear of what is to come.
When I was pregnant with my children, this book was my baby Bible and over the years, “The What To Expect” Book Series has grown to include: “What to Expect the First Year” and “What to Expect the Second Year” and more. These books can help ease the worries of new mother’s who really have no experience caring for a baby and contain the newest information available with every new edition to keep the most experienced parent informed. They are also great for us grandmother’s who may have forgotten a thing or to.
The “What to Expect” Book Series started with just one, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”.
Heidi Murkoff the author, was inspired during her first pregnancy when she realized there just wasn’t a lot of information available to help answer all the questions she had while expecting and a germ of an idea to write a book called “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” was born. She wanted to help other expecting parents to have the information they needed available in book form. And so began the success of “The What to Expect” Books.
The “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” Book is available in it’s all new fourth edition with over 17 million copies in print. Now that’s a heck of lot books that have made it into the hands of expecting parents.
In 2005 Heidi expanded the What to Expect (WTE) brand online with WhatToExpect.com — the interactive companion to the WTE books. Here you will find information from preconception, pregnancy, babies first year and toddlers. You can join groups and interact within the community with other parents going through the same struggles you are. They even have a place to start your own blog. You can share photos and your own experiences as parents.
One of the features my daughter is using is called Track Your Baby’s Growth Today. Just enter your due date or baby’s birth date and you will receive an email customized just for you and your baby. My daughter loves this. It gives her lots of tips based on what stage of pregnancy she is in and after her baby is born, she will continue to receive information about her baby’s stage of development and lots of information to help her as a new mother. They also have an online pregnancy Calendar and Baby Calendar.

There was even a movie based on the “What to Expect” books. Heidi helped turn her iconic book into a feature film — What to Expect When You’re Expecting — acting as executive producer. A comedy that features five intertwining couples whose lives are turned upside down by the challenges of impending parenthood, the film stars an ensemble cast including Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Lopez, Chris Rock, and Elizabeth Banks.
