The Safe Glow LED Dog Collar Review

Have you ever been driving on a dark street then suddenly come up on someone walking their dog and you almost hit them? Or a dog runs out in the street and you don’t see them until it’s almost to late?

This has been a worry of mine lately since temperatures where I live have been running in the upper 90′s and some days 100′s causing me to have to take my dog Lucy for her daily walks at night. I have been wearing bright clothing so that passing cars can see me, but I really didn’t have anything for my dog to wear. So when I was presented with the opportunity to review the Safe Glow LED Dog Collar from Dog Training Collars.com, I was thrilled since I have been worrying about our safety while walking after dark.

For my review I received the Safe Glow LED Dog Collar in medium pink, but it was to large for my dog. I even tried it on and it fit around my neck. It was comfortable though. LOL! I contacted the company and they sent me out a small size that came in green. The small was still a little big, but will work. I would recommend that you go a size smaller than you normally would purchase.

The Safe Glow LED Dog Collar is made from a light-weight wear-resistant nylon and on the outside has a reflective strip in different colors as an added safety measure. Inside the collar, it contains a flexible, light-transmitting polymer core that illuminates when the collar is turned on. The lighting system is removable giving you the ability to wash your dog collar. I love this feature.

The lighting system has three settings. Steady Glow, Slow Flash and Fast Flash. The button you push to turn it on is located by the closure. It is really easy to click the small button. One click turns it to a fast flash, the second click to a slow flash and the third click to a steady glow.

The battery you use for the Safe Glow collars is a long-life lithium battery which you can purchase at most retailers. LED collars are efficient reducing the frequency of having to replace the battery.

The collar has a snap buckle closure. I really thought the buckle was a little over-sized. I would have liked it better if it had been slightly smaller. On a larger dog, I’m sure this would not be an issue, but it looked huge on my little 10 pounder dog.

I experimented with removing the lighting system from inside the collar and then putting it back in. It was pretty easy to do, just remember to slide the buckle that tightens the collar to the end out of your way.

The Safe Glow LED Dog Collar is very comfortable. It has nothing on it to irritate or stick your dog. As I mentioned earlier, having received the medium that was to large for my dog, I tried it on and it actually felt very comfortable.

One thing you will want to keep in mind is that this dog collar is not fully waterproof. You can remove the lighting system if it is raining, but that will only leave you with the reflective strip. You might could possibly cover it with Saran Wrap.

The Cons: As I mentioned before,  you might want to purchase a size smaller than you normally would, since they seem to run a little large. Also, I didn’t like the size of the closure. It seemed to large to me. And it’s not waterproof.

The Pros:  It provided a comfortable fit on my dog and the light really does shine bright in the dark. No worrying if anyone will see you and your dog again. I loved that the light inside came out so that you can wash the dog collar or remove it if it’s raining.  I liked that it had the added reflective strip. And one big plus, it contains a long-life lithium battery reducing how often you will need to replace it.

All in all, I really like the Safe Glow LED Dog Collar and I think my dog did too. Here’s another pic of Lucy. She’s finally beginning to like the camera and hold her head high.
